Residents who complete three years of core surgery without a specific commitment to stay at the same institution for their plastic surgery residency (independent plastic surgery program – combined model) will have the opportunity to apply for independent plastic surgery residency positions through the plastic surgery match (see 3). The plastic surgery match is held in the spring of each year and includes general surgery residents who will have a minimum of three years of surgery at the time of entry into the plastic surgery residency or who have completed a residency in other surgical subspecialties (otolaryngology, orthopedics, neurosurgery) or who have a DDS/MD degree and have completed an oral surgery residency which includes two years of core surgery training.
