There are two routes for entering plastic surgery training. The first is open to senior medical students and the second to physicians who are already involved in a specialty training program. A description of training requirements is available from the American Board of Plastic Surgery at http://www.abplsurg.org/. The American Medical Association publishes the Graduate Medical Education Directory. This directory lists all the accredited training programs and is probably available in your medical school library. The directory can be ordered through the AMA at http://www.ama-assn.org/.
If you wish to apply to a plastic surgery residency as a senior medical student, the NRMP can be accessed at http://nrmp.aamc.org/nrmp/. If you are already participating in specialty training and wish to enter plastic surgery, the Plastic Surgery Matching Program can be contacted at http://www.sfmatch.org/.
If you are interested in plastic surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons supports a website that can provide you with valuable information about our specialty. This site is accessible at http://www.plasticsurgery.org/.
